Saturday night 5th of May. Well, today my instructor was Debbie and we did 4 launches this morning and 3 more late afternoon. Did circuits both ways, right and left ones. I needed 16lb (11kg) weight and a hard cushion, which is in fact a wooden one behind my back. I am starting to get hang of it. So more launched tomorrow and then after that will start doing launch failures. I started really feeling so much more comportable, I have been bit wary of the winch launches. It is a bit funny way getting into the air with feet first! Also everything happens so quickly, so if something goes wrong must act there and then. First get the flying speed, otherwise everything goes horribly wrong.
There are some photos. First one is the launch point, gliders both sides of the bus. Bus is the cafe and a breefing room and keeping warm place. Today was again a very cold day, windy, sun was shining when wasn't hiding behind the clouds. The bus cafe is so handy, we get hot and cold sand witches, breakfast with toast, bacon and eggs, hot soup, tea, coffee, cacao etc.
The other photos are of a two seater trainer K13 glider, first the winch launch hook being attached, then club member holding the wing and last photo K13 being winched into the air. You can see how steep the climb is.
I did the last launches today, it was 6pm when Debbie and me landed. I was suppose to be doing a hanger landing, but there were this old man walking on a landing area, so I decided not to land in front of him! When we were putting the glider to bed, he came to tell us that he had not seen us.
We had a BBQ in the evening. Piece of chicken, sausage, burger, salads and potatoes. Then I sat in a bar until 10pm. Charlie (from the earlier club) was there and staying the night. Few chaps are going to the vintage meeting somewhere nearby tomorrow. I will stay here, weather should be better than today. I want to get going with winching.
A Spitfire and a Mustang should have arrived tonight and stayed in a hanger overnight, but did not arrive. These war birds often stay here overnight when flying to the airshows to do displays.
When I grow up I want to be a Spitfire!
Good Night, I am so tired. Lots of fresh air, being outside the whole day!
