Good Morning!
Yesterday morning looked like a very good soaring day! The cross country pilots gathered here and off they went. A two seater even set a task for 750km. Two or three gliders went for 500km and others for smaller tasks.
The launch point was filled with trial flights, but not enough instructors for anything else. So, in the end, I ended up not flying at all. In the evening at the bar one of the instructors came to me asking do I know that I should book in advance during the week! No, I did not know. Until now it has worked without booking, there have been the extra capacity. So, there you are! One learns, usually the hard way.
The weather changed and gliders kept dropping in. In the end 750km turned out to be 400km and 500km ended up with 200km. The Astir landed in a field near Towcester and it took 2hrs to deal with the farmer, he wanted to charge similar rate what farmers charge with hot air balloons! Other glider landed at Syvell.
I spent lots of time in a launch point talking, crocheting and listening. One hears all sort of stories there! This old lady who is learning to glide was telling this young man about an incident when she killed a man, as she put it. Long time ago she was on a seaside and there was this old man in a water waiving at her, so she waved back. " What a friendly chap" she thought. Later she heard that old man had drowned... it was the chap who had waved at her earlier.... The lady told all this to this young man yesterday in a launch point bus and the young man told her everything about his brother who is into drugs and things and all the time messes up the whole family´s life. The bus is not just a cafe, shelter, parachute storage etc but also a therapy place! You tell your troubles to others and in return you listen their`s.
Yesterday a Zeppelin passed the airfield, Hercules is so regular, not worth even mentioning.
I shall walk to the launch point and see what the day brings!
